Glenn Schofield rented his four- bedroom house to Lee Davis, 18, but problems began when Davis’s girlfriend moved in and they stopped paying the rent. Davis, 18, who has never worked since he left school, smashed up the house in Darlington in anger after being asked to leave, a court heard. Mr Schofield spent £2,000 cleaning the house in August after Davis threw paint over the walls. Mr Schofield spent months going through the courts to evict them but by the time he was granted an evic- tion order the house was vandalised. The landlord’s insurance company quoted £18,500 to repair further dam- age and replace broken windows, kitchen fittings and appliances, smashed doors and a stair rail.
