So, sorry Bryan, but I don’t think the finalists (even his favourite, “the lady in the blue dress” – but apparently he’s been religiously watching the whole series…) will be following your advice all that closely.  Perhaps X Factor shouldn’t bother paying “credible artists” (I remember that Three Musketeers song) to be guests on the show, as it just makes it embarrassing for all parties.  Especially us, the viewers.

There’s room for manufactured popstars in the world and there’s also room for less conventionally attractive people who happen to be able to play instruments and write words. But there is no room for the two to collide on primetime TV, which is why, once we’ve got rid of Janet Devlin (like most of the country, I really liked her to start with but now she’s JUST. SO. DULL), the X Factor will be 100% pure pop, just as it should be.
