Heidi Manton is a personable Snow White whose sunny personality and good voice pairs and harmonises well with Rees as the handsome Prince. Led by Laird’s indomitable Colonel, with Denise Dove (Cheerful) and Audrey Wilson (Growler) the entry of the Seven Dwarfs makes a strong visual impact. Story-book sets, a pretty sparkling woodland sleigh scene, and tightly directed knock-about comedy, all supported by excellent technical effects, makes for fine family entertainment.

Highlight of the comedy is a take on The Twelve Days of Christmas that has foursome - Craig Rees (Prince Valentine), Max Laird (Colonel), Grant and Moseby - rushing helplessly around stage with assorted hilarious props and some astute ad-libbing.

Taking on the role of Dame for the first time, Ben Moseby establishes a good rapport with both audience and actors. In a range of outrageous costumes, the energetic Moseby’s Sarah Spoilit gets the laughs with good slapstick, teamed with Simon Grant’s assured Muddles and Matt Byrne’s Huntsman.

Barry Ross, assistant conductor of the Kalamazoo Symphony and retired concertmaster, will perform during the recital and share some wonderful insights about the importance of music education. The White Lake Junior Strings is a creation of Music & Performing Arts, branch of the Arts Council of White Lake. The White Lake Junior Strings started in the fall of 2008 and has expanded to include two campuses, one in Whitehall and the second in Hart, reaching all of Oceana County. Scheduling for the winter program, running Jan. Classes meet weekly and include private tutoring and full ensemble participation.
