He will board a bus Friday and make the 4-mile trip from the top of Gray Highway, down the hill and across the river. He will stay the course on Second Street until he arrives at Elam Alexander’s new location at the former Burke Elementary School.

On Friday, Alex will take center stage at the start of the final dress rehearsal before Monday’s performance. (The Christmas program is a tradition that dates back to 1991, when the school was known as the more cold-hearted Middle Georgia Psycho-Ed Center.)

Alex will be wearing his Boy Scout uniform, and he will be surrounded by his peers and classmates.

By the time he leaves, he will be the big man on campus. Especially after he cuts the ribbon for the school’s gift shop, the one he helped build and the one that will now bear his name.

Alex is a ninth-grader in his second year at Elam Alexander’s satellite campus at Northeast High School.

GRANT CITY -- “Do a good turn daily.” That’s the Boy Scout motto, and it’s exactly what the Scouts from Troop 1 did recently for St. Christopher’s School. The Scouts gave up their Saturday to clear the back fence, removing more than 10 dead trees. Under the leadership of Alex Ryan, a 2008 St. Christopher’s graduate, Troop 1, whose members include fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys from the school and neighborhood, as well as high school teens, completed a major landscaping project on the grounds of the school, located on the corner of Midland Avenue and Lisbon Place. On Tuesday, Doehring pleaded guilty to the home invasion counts and was sentenced to seven years in prison, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokesman Andy Conklin said. Doehring’s murder case is pending and is scheduled for a status hearing on Jan. 26.

Doehring, 23, was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of home invasion and two counts of armed robbery for the deaths of Escobar and Santiago on Sept. 21, 2009, in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to police.

Chicago - Christopher Doehring, who was recorded on a Cook County Jail phone confessing to the murders of Angelina Escobar and Alex Santiago in their Albany Park neighborhood home last year, was sentenced to seven years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to home invasion.
